Call for Directors

Are you a seasoned director looking for a new creative platform? Or are you an aspiring director seeking mentorship and coaching to hone your skills? St. James Players invites applications from both experienced directors and enthusiastic amateurs for the upcoming season.

ABOUT US:

After more than half a century of putting on musical theatre in Peterborough, we know that there are some talented individuals in our community with great visions for directing! We want to hear from you.

Traditionally, we have presented two musical theatre productions each year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall but we have recently added a third show to our season!

For our third show, we are looking for small-scale productions, including concert style, plays (non-musical), play readings and more! Our first "third production" is A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder!

Our Spring production is focused on getting kids on stage and passionate about theatre. It provides an important way to develop young talent while entertaining our community—it is staged toward the end of April (a single weekend run) in the large auditorium at St. James United Church. Recent productions include "Alice@Wonderland," "Peter Pan: A Musical Adventure," and "Captain Bree and her Lady Pirates" and our latest production of "Anne of Green Gables".

Our Fall show is our larger production, and it typically has a predominantly adult cast. It is put on at Showplace every November with a run of up to two weeks. Recent productions include "Beauty and the Beast," "Mamma Mia," "Shrek," and "Mary Poppins."

Founded in 1972, St. James Players (SJP) is a community group dedicated to musical theatre. We started out in a very modest way performing in the church hall, borrowing costumes, improvising a stage, and using whatever was available for sets.

We had a simple goal: to provide musical theatre opportunities for the young people of our community. As our performers and backstage workers became more experienced, our productions became more ambitious. We moved out into the community, renting larger venues to stage these musical productions for our building audience.

St. James Players recently conducted a survey of our community to determine what words best describe an ideal musical theatre experience? In order of frequency, the results were:

FUN
GREAT-MUSIC
COMEDY
ENTERTAINING
FAMILY
DANCING
TALENT
QUALITY
STORY

Keep this in mind when proposing show ideas! We are looking for shows that are high-quality, family-friendly, and above all, FUN!

Experienced Directors
If you have a proven track record of directing successful productions, we want to hear from you! St. James Players is dedicated to providing a platform for established directors to showcase their talent and bring their unique vision to our stage. Whether your expertise lies in classic plays, contemporary dramas, musicals, or experimental theater, we encourage you to submit your application.
